The Story Circle
The Story Circle introduces elders to the art of storytelling. Through partnerships with senior centers and libraries, Story Circles explore a significant theme and culminate with a compilation of the group's shared recollections in an anthology. This program gives elders an opportunity to find their stories, develop a voice, hear the stories of the group, and reflect on commonalties and differences.
In 2009, ESTA hosted an event, "A Readers Theater" at the Dweck Center for Contemporary Culture in Brooklyn, which drew on sixty Story Circles that have convened over the course of six years in our partnership with the Brooklyn Public Library.
Most recently, ESTA has added digital photography to the Story Circle programs as a way to incorporate a strong visual element into storytelling. Click here to view the most recent anthology from a Story Circle program that explored digital photography.
